WHS Choir

It is a known fact around campus that some of the best and brightest students at Waco High School are involved in the fine arts. Students in 9th through 12th grades have the opportunity to excel in multiple academic, athletic and extracurricular activities at the highest competitive level. Waco High Choir membership includes these fine students, athletes, and the leaders of many campus organizations. The Waco High Choir and its students are known for the honors and awards that they consistantly receive. From UIL Concert and Sight-Reading successes to individual All-State placement, the list is quite impressive.

Students who are in the choir program at Waco High find themselves graduating on to great colleges and universities.

A successful choir program is built by a group of well-adjusted, motivated students who are recognized as leaders and who perform at the highest level on many other "stages."

The Waco High Choir is open to young men and women in the 9th through 12th grades. Choir students sing music of all types and styles in large and small groups for audiences of all ages. There are several choir classes; each is for a particular type of student.. beginner, advanced, competitive, noncompetitive, male, female. There is also an Acapella Choir that students may audition for each semester. The Showchoir is a musical theater group that conducts auditions each April for the following year.

 

Brently Bartlett

Brently Bartlett is a music educator, oboist, and vocalist based in Waco, TX. A Pennsylvania native, Brently moved to Texas in 2019 for his first public school teaching position at Waco High School. There, he holds the position of Head Choir Director and instructs the WHS Chorale, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, and the new Waco ISD Gospel Choir. He also acts as Music Director for the yearly musical on campus. His choirs enjoy collaborating with other artists and groups throughout the area and the district, most recently with the McLennan Community College Choirs. 

In 2019, Brently completed his Master of Music Education degree from Ohio University, with focuses in instrumental conducting, voice and vocal pedagogy, and musculoskeletal health of instrumental musicians. For his graduate studies at Ohio University, Brently was awarded two distinguished teaching assistantships through the School of Music: the Graduate Teaching Assistantship for Oboe Studies and the Graduate Teaching Assistantship for Music Education. Brently’s teaching experience at Ohio University includes: Instructor of Record for Introduction to Music Theory, Exploring Musical Styles, and Oboe Pedagogy for Music Education, and teaching assistant for Introduction to Music Education, Lab Band for Music Education, and Instrumental Methods and Techniques. 

Prior to his graduate studies at Ohio University, Brently completed his Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Bachelor of Arts in Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where his primary instruments were oboe and English horn. Additionally, Brently received a minor in Fine Arts Entrepreneurship after the completion of an intensive internship with the Lively Arts of IUP. 

In his free time, Brently plays oboe with the MCC Community Band and Community Orchestra, and enjoys filling in throughout the community wherever an oboe is needed. Brently also enjoys traveling, writing, performing, acting, and spending time with his family and friends. He has traveled and performed through the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, and Spain, and hopes to add more countries to this list in the coming years. Brently is also the proud Director of Music at Lake Shore Baptist Church, where he is responsible for all liturgical music for all serves and directs the Lake Shore Baptist Church Choir and Handbell Ensemble.
